Another Successful Intern Season

By lifeandstylepr / On / In Blog, Updates

Panorama Life & Style PR welcomes Kalyn Anne Cabral to its 16th Summer Internship Program where young PR talent learns the ropes while providing valuable assistance to our team.

In keeping with Panorama’s tradition, we asked Kalyn to share a few things about herself, and here is what she told us:

What 3 words best describe you? Three words to describe me are: Kind, Dependable, and Creative.

Tell us about your professional journey – what’s your dream? I would like for my professional journey in my PR career to lead me to work for a PR firm or be the personal PR agent for a company. I would love to do international work or be able to travel with my job.

What are your personal interests? My personal interests consists of painting, eating Mexican food, and scrolling through Pinterest. I also love to travel and explore new places. I graduate from JSU this coming August, and throughout my college years I spent most of my time with my sorority sisters and being (probably too much) involved in the Student Government Association.

What do you like best about Panorama PR? From what I have learned about Panorama Life & Style PR, I would have to say that my favorite part is the diverse clientele it represents, as well as how the company has taught me that PR is more than social media and planning parties. It’s actual research and shows how hard work does provide results.

Author Chervis Isom signs with Panorama Life & Style PR for promotion of “The Newspaper Boy”

By Darlene / On / In Blog, Updates

Birmingham, Alabama, January 1, 2015—Panorama Life & Style today announced that it will represent author Chervis Isom in the promotion of his book, The Newspaper Boy, his memoir, a story of a boy coming of age in Birmingham during the turbulent times of segregation and the Civil Rights Movement.

Isom’s story embraces the idea of better learning through community and storytelling. The bond he forged with his customers and acquaintances as a young newspaper boy helped expose Isom to a broader worldview. This exposure gave Isom the insight he is able to share today.

“I have always been an avid reader, “said Isom. “Even as a young boy, I knew that the written word could help me make sense of the world around me, no matter how confusing or polarizing it can be.”

Isom tells his story from the unique perspective of a young white boy growing up in the middle class neighborhood of Norwood, just blocks from where some of the most heinous acts upon humanity were committed during the Civil Rights Era. He reflects on his newspaper delivery route, the people on that route, and the community that impacted his life. It is a story that many can identify with.

“My story, like others who share my experiences of growing up in the epicenter of the Civil Rights movement, are stories that need to be shared and discussed within our communities. It’s the only way to strengthen the bonds we already have in place.”

Panorama Public Relations Launches Lifestyle Division

By lifeandstylepr / On / In Blog, Updates

Panorama Public Relations recently launched Panorama Life & Style PR to target its growing roster of lifestyle clients. It has also adopted a new slogan to encapsulate the common roots of the two divisions: Lead the Conversation. Lead the Competition.

“We are excited about launching the new division,” said Darlene Rotch, managing partner at parent company PPR Communications. “We have wanted to separate our lifestyle initiatives from our corporate services and crisis communication practice for a long time. Now, we feel we can clearly target those two separate client profiles with appropriate service packages.”

Panorama Life & Style PR will offer clients who target consumers a communication platform that will include public relations, brand engagement, and digital media services.

The Panorama Life & Style website, designed by Rustixs Interactive, features photography from Liesa Cole of Omni Studios. “They wanted to make it fun, and we like to have fun.” said Greg Robinson, content manager. “I think Omni captured the essence of our work culture—creative, personable and results-driven.”

Entrepreneurship camp for teens launches this summer at Birmingham-Southern College

Panorama CEO, Darlene Rotch, shares expertise on being an entrepreneur, branding and public relations

Eighteen high school students with an innate desire to start a business will descend upon the Birmingham-Southern campus this Sunday, prepared to start their entrepreneurial journey.

The college’s first Entrepreneurship Camp, set for June 15-20, is designed to immerse high school juniors and seniors in a highly collaborative business program. The six-day residential camp will be held from Sunday at 4 p.m. to Friday at 2 p.m.

These would-be tycoons will experience real-world business activities through case studies, role-playing, and mentor consultations. The coursework will build on the entrepreneurship pillars of business plan writing, social responsibility, marketing competition/collaboration, cash flow/budgeting, and leadership.

Classes will be facilitated by BSC business department faculty and successful community entrepreneurs, including Darlene Rotch, president and CEO of Birmingham-based Panorama Public Relations; Shane Boatright and Steve Bookout from Boatright Companies; David Gray, CEO at Daxco; Devin Laney, CEO of Innovation Depot; James Outland, partner at New Capital Partners; David Kahn, founder of Yogurt Mountain and Pizza 120; Megan LaRussa ’08, founder of Southern Femme; and Dewar Gaines ’14, CEO of the tech-startup Abacadabra Health.

Over the course of the intensive program, the students will work in teams to construct a complete business plan, and then present the plan to local entrepreneurs with the opportunity to win a $4,000 Stump Entrepreneurship Scholarship to BSC. Students will also travel off-campus for various field trips, which include Innovation Depot, Regions Field, Barber Motorsports Park, and Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve.

Funding for the camp comes from a $15,000 grant from the Joseph S. Bruno Foundation and with support from an existing endowed fund from BSC alumni Kevin and Jane Stump. The week will end with a business plan presentation by each team. Local entrepreneurs and business leaders will review and critique the plans and select the winning team in which the four members will each receive a $4,000 scholarship to attend Birmingham-Southern.

“The camp will provide great entrepreneurship training for the participants,” said Dr. Sara Robicheaux, B.A. Monaghan Professor of Business and dean of business programs at BSC. “They will learn the many facets of implementing and owning a business while studying under professional mentors.”

“Birmingham-Southern is excited to offer this new camp,” said Dr. Carolyn Garrity, assistant professor of business and the camp’s executive director. “We’ve had a fantastic group of students apply from across the Southeast, including Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. We hope to tap into their potential and give them the tools they need to be successful in the future. We’re also thankful to the Birmingham business community for their enthusiasm towards helping these students and to the Bruno Foundation for their generous support.”

For more information about the camp, contact Robicheaux at (205) 226-4828.
